Australian Singer/Songwriter

Harmony James

Australian country singer-songwriter, Harmony James is celebrated for her powerful voice and emotionally honest storytelling. Her breakthrough came in 2007 when her song “Tailwind” won the country category of the International Songwriting Competition, making her the only Australian songwriter to achieve the honour and earning praise from judge Rosanne Cash. Her songs have been recorded by artists including Kasey Chambers, and she has toured extensively alongside leading acts such as Sara Storer, Troy Cassar-Daley, and The McClymonts.

Working with producer Herm Kovac, Harmony released her acclaimed debut album Tailwind in 2009. The album produced multiple hits, including the Top 10 title track and her first No. 1 single “Somebody Stole My Horse,” firmly establishing her as a major new voice in Australian country music.

Her second album, Handfuls of Sky (2012), marked a career high point, featuring multiple No. 1 singles and earning industry recognition including Queensland Music Award wins, Golden Guitar nominations, and a worldwide publishing deal with Albert Music alongside a major record deal with Warner Music Australia.

Harmony continued her success with Cautionary Tales (2014), receiving CMAA nominations for Best Album, Best Female Artist, and Best Heritage Song. After an unexpected health challenge led her to step back from touring, Harmony eventually returned to songwriting with renewed depth and honesty.

An unexpected life altering change in her health led her to withdraw from touring commitments and it wasn’t until a very moving email from a longtime listener, that Harmony found herself ready to send more songs out to the universe.  Harmony returned in 2019 with Resignation, a deeply reflective collection exploring grief, hope, and resilience, showcasing her gift for turning real stories into timeless songs.
