Faraway Eyes

(Harmony James  – J Albert & Sons)

He’s a man of his word and he’d never want to let me down
He’s as good as his promise and he’s always been around
All these years together we’ve barely spent a night apart
Well I might have his promise but I’m not so sure I have his heart

I found a map he’d been reading with a route marked out in red
And the road he’d been leading didn’t bring him home again
It was creased and worn like he’d had it a long, long time
I was reminded again what is always on his mind

He’s the best thing that happened and I need him by my side
And he stays with me but he’s never really mine
I can see he’d rather be under the southwest skies
When he’s looking out over my shoulder with those faraway eyes

We have cool conversations over coffee every day
And he rarely, if ever, disagrees with a word I say
I’m afraid it could mean he’s well past caring at all
He gave up on his dreams but his dreams still come to call

He’s the best thing that happened and I need him by my side
And he stays with me but he’s never really mine
I can see he’d rather be under the southwest skies
When he’s looking out over my shoulder with those faraway eyes

I can see he’d rather be under the southwest skies
When he’s looking out over my shoulder with those faraway eyes
He’s looking out over, out over my shoulder, looking out over, over my shoulder with those faraway eyes
Oh he’s looking out over, out over my shoulder, and I can’t let go even though I still notice those faraway eyes
